Does anyone know of any classes in Perth about disciplining children? Our son is 18 months and has started getting quite naughty. I don't want to resort to spanking but just telling him off doesn't seem to get through. I realised last night that I really don't know how to discipline a child. He is our first and I haven't been around a lot of little children for a long time.

I'm not sure about classes but 18 months isn't too young to learn about consequences. He can be put in time out (1 minute for every year) with clear and concise instruction for example. The super nanny has some pretty great discipline tips for all ages.
My DS started really bad tantrums at that age too. He started hitting me. I've never had toys in his room so I put him on his bed told him he was having time out walked out and closed the door. Once the tantrum (yelling) stopped I went back into the room and had a talk to him about what happened, why he was put in time out etc. Ended in a hug and had a perfect day. I did this 3 times in the follow week and since then (he's nearly 5), he has NEVER hit me, thrown anything at me etc.
I felt horrible but discipline doesn't feel nice for anyone. Its just one of things that needs to be done.
