Hi mums & dads,
I don't know if I have a question, maybe I'm just looking for guidance, or some similar stories.
My dad a few weeks ago suffered from an anxiety attack. He's been very stressed lately.
He is now in a mental health hospital undergoing treatment. They have diagnosed him with psychotic depression. It's so hard seeing him like this. The treatment they recommended for him is Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) which sounds so intrusive. Has anyone else had this? Or knows someone that had it done & came out good?
Thanks in advance
Xx

If you need more information ask your dad's doctors, or ask how to go about a second opinion. Not one single person in this page should give you advice on what you should do medically.
My experience of doctors is they don't recommend these procedures lightly. They do it because they believe it's in the patients best interests.
I have a son with a condition and sometimes I have to put him through procedures that some might label invasive. Sometimes you just have to do it. Sometimes what seems invasive is actually the fastest best long term treatment.
Talk to your dad's doctors again.
hit and miss with ECT.
but if its being recommended, it might be worth while doing it.
I know of one person who has had it, but she has schizophrenia.
is it possible for your father to trial some medications?
Does he have a history, cause from the sounds of your post, this has all suddenly happened out of no where?
Best of luck .xx
