My 9 week old baby has a possible cows milk protein allergy. Unfortunately he is fully formula fed and after trying Pepti Junior and Soy he was placed on the prescription formula Neocate, which he's been on for 2.5 weeks now. He has been spitting up quite a lot the last few days which really upsets him and now it's hard to get him to continue past half a bottle. BUT, this is only during the day?! Night time feeds he is fine. Also because of the revolting taste of the Neocate we've been putting half a teaspoon of brown sugar in his bottle which we hope to wean him off soon... which will be hard!
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with Neocate and whether it can be thickened and whether your baby got used to the taste.
Also interested to know if any of your bubs grew out of the cows milk protein allergy.
And if anyone has any advice at all or would like to share their story I'd really appreciate it! :)

Hi there, my 18mo has cows milk protein allergy too. She is still bf but I can't keep it up much longer and I have been dairy free too.
Our paed got us to try Alfare which also tastes foul, he said to add vanilla essence to sweeten the deal but she still refuses it.
We only found out about her allergy when she was 6mo so its been a year. We've had heaps of accidental "dairy challenges" courtesy of daycare and she hasn't made any progress yet in terms of growing out of it but the paed gets us to do a challenge every 3 months and our next one is this weekend. Its exciting and daunting all at the same time.
I imagine its going to be a hard road for you to get your bub purely onto neocate, good luck!
A few bits of advice for you, try to find an alternative to the sugar, half a teaspoon say 8 times a day is a whopping 4tsp a day of sugar circulating in that tiny body!
I personally would be heading back to the paed asap for a review, spitting up after feeds and being unsettled by it is not a good sign :-(
Try a different formula with my ds 1 it took me 3 lactose free ones before I found one my son didn't react to we use karicare aptimil gold Delact because none of the pills or syrups they have him worked he just chucked th all up and put my second straight on it after he had the same symptoms my son is now 2 we have found he also has a soy intolerance which is why the other formulas didn't work he can now have small doses of milk eg like biscuits and bread but still can't drink it he has almond milk instead! Good luck
Is there any chance you could re-lactate? it's not impossible! xxx ps I'm not a BF nazi, I lasted 6 weeks with my son and 8 months with my daughter every kid is different xxx
