counseling getting heavy!

Okay well I'll start off by saying that I have done counselling a dozen times before and really never had much hope nor really believed it did anything, I have never felt any different after completing any sessions in till now...
It has been a fair few years since I have done counseling but thought I would give it a try as things have become a little over whelming, I have had 3 session's in total and again had the same head space as before but today we went 'deeper' and basically the end result was that I hated myself. I had a bumpy childhood so we did a technique which was for me to 'talk' to my 17 year old self and I didn't think it was going to be hard but it was. I had nothing nice or encouraging to say to 'her', this has really opened my eyes and as soon as I left the counselors office I broke down in tears.
I feel like crap, memories are flooding back to me, everything feels so real. I know it obviously this must be 'my big issue' and working through this is going to help me but I now feel so scared and heavy, I don't know if I want to open up more wounds. I feel so overwhelmed right now I don't know if I can go back there and relive this?
Has anyone been through intense counseling does it get better, is it worth it, did it help?

I personally dont think counselling works as it does nothing to remove the pain. You need to have timeline therapy through a certified coach. I highly recommend Trudi Ann Read from LifeRing.com.au SHe has all the tools needed to rip that shit out for it to never come back. If you have had counselling a dozen times and it hasnt done anything, then why go back.

Yes, I've been through it. It us exhausting and draining but I'm so very very happy that I pushed through. What you are describing is very common and a normal part of the process and I'm an excellent example of coming out the other side. I am no longer in the counselling round about.
So many people give up when it gets hard or after a few sessions because they didn't feel any better yet. Keep going, don't give up!

I have done so many counselling sessions and I fully believe it takes the right counsellor to make a difference. I feel you have found yours.

When I found mine I walked out so much worse and heavy too angry and frustrated but I kept going and I'm glad I did eventually I learnt to live with my past, forgive and move forward. Maybe you will too.

If it opens old wounds it's working
