Cot/Bed Transition

My son is 18mths old and we just recently had to take the side off his cot to make it a toddler bed because he fell over the side. It was the safest option and we have put a small mesh rail on the side to stop him rolling out.

The problem is he now can climb out of bed. Every sleep time it has become a game to him of how many times he can get out of bed. The only way to get him to stay in bed is for my husband or myself to sit at the side of the bed to stop him.
It is driving us crazy. Does anyone have any suggestions to keep him in bed?

Persevere with what you are doing. Once they get used to it and learn the rules it stops. Totally normal. I had to go through it with my son when he was 11months old as he worked out how to scale the cot!
