The cost of vanity!

The cost of vanity!

I visited the dentist this morning as I suspected a filling had fallen out. Unfortunately that wasn't the case and I was presented with two options. Root canal or remove the tooth. I opted to have the first treatment done as being toothless is hard to think about. I now have four weeks to decide my next move. The tooth is the second from the back. It is not noticeable when I smile however the cost of tooth removal ($200) vs. Root canal ($1800) is proving a difficult decision. I am incredibly vain about my appearance. In saying that I may not have a perfect body or face but I'm always neat and presentable and my favourite feature is my smile. Any other IMs been in the same situation? Any advice would be incredibly welcomed!

Hey I was in the same boat. Dentist said root canal wouldn't necessarily save tooth may only prolong it for a few years. I went with removal and a 1 tooth denture $1700. No one knows or can tell it's not a real tooth. Good luck!

No one is going to open your mouth to see if you have all your teeth! It's at the back and not noticeable when you smile so save yourself a shit load of money and get it removed

I have two teeth missing at the back (one on each side) because the adult teeth, didn't exist and the baby version were not going to last. Nobody can tell unless they stick there tongue in my mouth and felt around my teeth, I think we could agree that that would be extremely weird for someone to do. They were taken out in my late teens, I've never missed them, I don't feel self conscious about it and I don't walk around with my mouth prized open like a sideshow clown, so it just isn't a problem!

I was in this exact position 2 years ago and I wish I never got it removed. Second from the back. Not because of vanity reasons more so just because it is so annoying to chew on that side now because of the huge gap! I'm not sure how to even fix it I can't afford an implant tooth. If I could go back I would have got the root canal. But in saying that I have heard of people getting root canal and it not working any way but I guess it's the risk you take

I have a couple missing from the back - no one knows unless I tell them (& it's not through lack of dental hygiene I might add) - had a root canal done not long ago on one that you can see - it's quite a prolonged procedure. The cost can't really justify keeping a tooth no one will know is there or not for me but that's me and my financial situation - keep in mind though that root canals aren't forever
