Coping with Toddlers Cerebral Palsy Diagnosis

Hi all, I just love the 'Imperfect Mum', however I never thought I would be here seeking guidance. Our beautiful baby boy of 19 months was diagnosed with mild mixed cerebral palsy on Wednesday. I had a perfect pregnancy and delivery so did not see this coming at all. I'm devastated, although coping well and remaining positive. I guess Iam looking for mums with a similar experience as I feel so alone with this news and am not sure what to do from here. Thankyou all in advance x

It's such a roller coaster after any diagnosis for a child. Somedays I did better than others! Thanks to Facebook it's much easier to connect to other families. Do a Facebook search for cerebral palsy and I'm sure you will find a mix of groups. Some will be closed/private which is awesome because you can say whatever you want without the judgement that comes sometimes from people who haven't been through what your going through. I imagine that CP also has a organisation that you could reach out to. Sometimes they run play groups etc which are great to meet other parents. I found counselling for myself very helpful because I experienced a range of emotions. As a parent with a new diagnosis be wary, you will discover a wide range if people out their telling you they can cure or offer you the latest treatment, you can spend a lot if money on what boils down to elaborate scams, so research everything very carefully before investing money.

Hey, my daughter was diagnosed at 6 months old (I caught it really early). She has mild CP as well, effects her left side. She is 2.5 now and with all the work from physio you can't tell she even has it. I know every child and every dignosis is different but it's ok. If you are in cairns, all the OTs and physios at north cairns are great and they offer so many ways to help. It is very over whelming and there is a lot of work to do in the beginning but it will get better. If you need any more advice or need someone to bounce ideas off, don't hesitate to ask :)
