child support payments

Hi i am just wondering if any one has any info on child support payments and redundancy packages please? My ex has just been made redundant a week ago and has given me 2 days notice that his child support payments are stopping as he has put his new estimate at $0 I am not worried that he is stopping his payments as his not working but was asking for a lil bit more notice as centerlink payments and everything need to be adjusted. and also wasnt sure how he can put his estimate at 0. tia

It's inconvenient but I'm sure the redundancy came as a bit if a surprise to him too, meaning he had no time to plan. I think it's one of those things that you have to just cop in the chin as far as time line goes. I would get no warning that my ex was going to stop paying and there was nothing I could do about it. I never included child support in my budget after that, it was bonus money. You can ring centrelink yourself but usually changes to your payments are automatically made anyway as the CSA and centrelink are all linked up so it really shouldn't be an issue for centrelink.

I don't think they can estimate him at $0..
If he was made redundant there is probably also a pay out for him to leave, meaning he can pay child support, if there is no payout, surely he needs money to live on and therefore would sign up for benefits until he finds another job. My ex doesn't tell child support when or if he has a job so they continue to leave his child support payments at $15 a fortnight. Something doesn't sound right. I would ring child support yourself and see what is going on. They can only tell you so much, but that stuff they can tell you is if your payments are going to stop.

good luck x
