My 5mo has just gotten over a uti and seems to be teething. She will settle and sleep relatively well during the day but at night she will scream the house down until I give her nurofen. 15 mins after that she pretty much passes out. Has anyone else had their child/ten do this or does anyone have any ideas why it is only at night?

My son was around 6 mth and had an ear infection and similar happened where he wouldn't settle without nurofen. Once I was sure infection cleared and no actual reason to need nurofen I realised he was dependent on it as part of routine. 2 wks of being sick and needing it was enough to make it part of routine so I substituted the nurofen with water in syringe to test and he fell asleep same as if is given him nurofen. We just did that a few nights then he got over it.
Is it possible she's become dependent on the syringe more than the contents? Maybe you could try substituting what's in it? Maybe using something she doesn't like taste of so she won't want it then.
Hope that helps. Good luck
We have done the same ^^^ several times as my daughter picks up on everything and she thought it was a new step in our routine... bless her!
If you are worried, ring Health Direct and speak to their RNs. I've used them a lot and they have always given me great advice. http://www.healthdirect.org.au/ 1800 022 222
During the tething phase (4 at time she would cut) i went through weeks of nurofen at night, (helps with reducing swelling better then panadol) i found Hylands teething gel one of the only gels that helped instantly as well or Seda gel, both from chemist only.
The others didn't work as well for my girl.
Its a teething phase n some babies go through it harder n longer then others.
Amber also helped my girl heaps
also go to Dr if your not sure. Some of the carry on, on the page is just that different opinions from different types of parenting styles.
I don't know if this will be seen by the Facebook responders but I have to say a big thank you to the people who gave me a genuine and kind response. I greatly appreciate knowing I'm not the only one whose child is/has doing this. To those who had negative things to say and made me feel like I have been doing the wrong thing or jumping to pain relief first thank you for making me feel worse than ever for not being able to comfort my child. Of course I have tried cold washers and various teething reliefs both natural and medicated and tepid baths and cuddles etc etc...I am struggling adjusting to being a young mum of two under two and I value the positive opinions and comments here as doctors don't always have ALL of the answers. It is nice to hear from people who have 'been there done that'. Thank you again to the helpful posters :)
Don't stress on the negative comments, there will always be someone thinking your doing the wrong.
your doing the best you can with what u know n have.
been a mum/dad isn't easy. Especially when they are sick, its the hardest not been able to help.
my daughter had hand, foot, mouth n I had done everything possible to help n she was still crying n itchy n in pain until everything had kicked in we just sat n cried together. She was 1.
