I would love to hear from parents who have done both child led weaning and the traditional spoon feeding of purées.
Which did you find best for you and your child? What were the pros and cons? Is your child a fussy eater or are they good with food? What are your personal opinions on both?
Thanks in advanced!

I did traditional with my first, he was always a fussy eater. A bit of both with my second and third and they both eat anything you give them. The only con for me with baby led weaning is you have to be prepared for a lot of mess! And some gagging as they try new textures etc. Which is normal and different to choking. I don't start BLW until 6 months however started purees around 5. Just make sure things like sausages, grapes etc are cut so they are no longer round so they are not a choking hazard :)
I did a mixture. Used some common sense. If he showed an interest and it was safe then he got to try a bit but also exposed him to puréed foods. My kid who isn't a kid anymore went through some stages of being fussy like most kids but also went through some stages of eating anything and now eats anything despite having ASD lol. I think having a relaxed non anxious attitude to food does rub of on your kids. I never forced a purée that he showed a dislike for.
We did traditional with our first and did blw with our 2nd and 3rd. i found it much easier cuz i didn't have to make up special meals. They all go thru a fussy stage around 10-18mths, my 15mth old (3rd child)will sometimes eat dinner and other days doesn't want a bar of it. I refuse to make her something different just because she wont try it. She is by far the fussiest but is getting better. I've learnt to just go, ok if you don't want to eat that's fine, she just doesn't get anything after no desert no fruit nothing. But my 2nd child is a garbage guts now, she's3 and will try almost anything. but i do remember her going thru a fussy stage. i think my youngest takes cues from the oldest who can be quite fussy at time. They eat what we eat full stop. its important to understand gagging and choking they are too different things. BLW is very messy and wasteful as they like to smear food instead of eating it the early stages, so if you can handle the mess and waste go for it. My 15mth old eats her weetbix for breakfast by herself (using a combo of hand/spoon) and has been since about 10/11months its fantastic, it means i get to eat my cereal and drink my tea like a normal person instead of having bites and sips in between her mouthfuls.
Mix of both for flexibility and then bub will guide you!
