Do any of the IMs have advice on changing schools within the same area?
We recently made the decision to take my son out of the catholic primary school in our local area and in the new year he will start at the local public school. He is in grade 2 this year.
I also have a daughter who will be starting prep next year so she will go there too.
We will know some families through local community connections so I am not worried to much about making new friends.
The big thing for me will be departing from a catholic school environment (which is all I've known from my educational experiences) going into the public system. Has anyone else done this? How did you find the change?
I actually don't identify as a catholic even though this was my upbringing, same as my husband. We feel like we are doing the right thing for our children, as we don't believe religion should be taught as "fact" in an educational setting.
I have no problem with my kids learning about religions and beliefs of different cultures.
Your thoughts?

I don't have any advice about going from catholic to public but I changed my sons school at the same age yours is, it was a big move and a very nerve racking one but it was the best decision we ever made! A lot of people say you get a better education at a catholic/private school but my kids have amazing teachers at public and the education program they have is amazing! Good luck!
My sisters and I went through public education system our entire lives. One of us is a doctor (oncologist). If your child is going to do well they will do well. We had an excellent experience and in lots of ways we had more opportunities in the public system to try a wider variety of subjects (in high school) than we would have done in private.
If your kids go to uni you can't tell the difference between public and private students.
