Car seat

What age did you turn your baby around in car seat? I have a very large long 8.8kg 4mo and the health nurse said I can turn him at 8kg. I have a hipod Milan seat and live in Vic. Apparently different rules but I'm confused and can't find good info anywhere. He's getting to big to fit backwards and deff won't last 12months like that. What did you do?

I have a very solid 11 month old who is still rear facing. She's 11.3 kilos. I have decided to just keep her rearward facing until 12 months.

Thank you. He's not solid so much as he's super long and tall. His shoulders are almost up to the line where there not supposed to go past. Not sure what to do. Deff wouldn't do anything that's not safe. I hope he lasts that long facing rear.

if he goes over the line before he is 6m you have to buy a new seat. infa neon/kompressor or safe n sound compact have very high markers. (my 4.5y old is still rf in the neon)

Turning a 4 month old is not safe. Your health nurse is giving out dangerous and illegal advise.
Check out this website for some good info: http://rearfacingdownunder.com/

it is illegal to turn your baby forward before 6m weight means nothing now and it didn't in the past either.
your healt nurse gave you illegal advice I would report that.

my 4.5y old is still rear facing.
if you are having trouble lifting him in loosen the tether strap and tighten when baby in strapped into his seat.

you must go by the markers (if your set has them, but seeing his age I would guess you got a new seat in the ;ast 12months)
you cant turn him till he is at the marker to turn forward.

Legally he, must rf to a minimum of 6months. However it is best to follow the height markers on your carseat. Rf is much safer in the event of an accident

Legally, a baby MUST rear-face until six months old and it's recommended until twelve months. If he is that close to the marker, you can remove the baby insert so he sits deeper in the seat. You may need to consider a seat with higher shoulder markers so he can rear-face for longer, which is safer anyway (Infasecure Neon from Big W is well regarded and same price as the Hipod Milan). The law is 6 months minimum!! Weight has nothing to do with car seat laws anymore. It is illegal to turn your bub before 6 months... but alot safer to keep rear facong for as long as possible. Do yourself a favour and YouTube car seat crashtesting rear vs forward facing.
