Can I really change my child's behavior by changing her diet?

Has anyone noticed a change in their toddler's behavior when they changed their diet?

My daughter is screaming and throwing herself around then is laughing 2 minutes later and then she will be grumpy and go in the corner upset even I haven't said anything.

She's 2 and I understand that she may be exhibiting "Terrible Twos" but she's very erratic and very hard to bring back down when she's off... even when you calm her down she starts lashing out.. I've tried everything from timeout to ignoring it.

She eats pretty well and rarely has sugar but maybe I need to change something else?

Don't need judgmental opinions, I just need some guidance.

I've looked into the diet thing. While some people swear by diets the scientific evidence suggests it's mostly a waste of time and energy. So as long as your child is eating a relatively balanced diet following regular guidelines a change in diet is only going to make you feel better because you feel like your doing something. I'm going to be hammered by people who follow some diet regime or another for saying that :) if you do go down the diet route take data on your child's behaviour for a week prior to starting the change so you have a baseline, make the change for a month continuing to take data and then take her off the diet for a month. If there is no change in data you have your answer. Most people don't take data so have to rely on memory and after going to all that trouble you really want it to have worked. Good luck whatever you decide

I dont really know where previous poster has been reading but there has been a lot of studies done showing diet can change behavior both good and bad. There is proof behind the theory and food can impact how children act aswell as adults! It's not just sugar you have to look at, it's high carb foods that are also to be avoided if child is having behavioural problems and most importantly processed foods and foods that have artificial colors. We thought my daughter had adhd but after changing her diet to a more protein based diet without processed foods or high sugar foods we now see the world of difference. Food impacts our energy levels, mood swings and quality of sleep. is important to remember shes not even 3, so it really can be just the terrible twos! It's pretty much asure thing youre kid will be a monster ay this age no matter what you're feeding them lol but every kid respnds differently to different foods. No harm in giving it a go...after a month or two youll know. Good luck

"The chemical maze" shopping companion..
Great book.. Shows you the worst of the worst... Colors, preservatives and additives, that could effect any one, including behavioral problems..
A friend of mind followed this and also I recommended... Fish oil and magnesium.... Completely different child considering they where going down the road of ADHD.
Worth a try for a few months any way.... Good luck!!
