C-section or natural

Hi ladies, I fractured my spine early this year after getting hit by a car, I've since seen my spinal surgeon, who recomended to my obyn that he cannot guarantee I will not re fracture my spine during natural birth. The spinal surgeon basically didn't say either way what I should do and my obyn is the same, they both see risks in a natural or c-section. My physio is so against a c-section as we have worked so hard to strengthen my core only to have to cut through it... I'm torn, and yes I know I have to go by what the professionals suggest, but I have made sure I'm well informed but I feel that they've just palmed the choice onto me and I'm torn!!!

Have a natural birth and risk re fracturing the spine or c section which involves lots of recovery and damaging all my hard work with the physio...

You can better handle refracturing the spine if your core is still intact....although natural births hold no guarentees there can always be complications....chances are no one can really give you a solid answer until position of the placenta and bubs is known....let alone those things which can't be known.

If even surgeons don't jump at the chance to cut there are usually significant reasons.

BTW having such a strong core to deal with spinal injury and cutting through it recovery of those muscles and the pain associated is going to be so much more intense than for most women....they will snap back like elastic bands....and not in a good way.

Their main intent in informing you seems to be more along the lines of preparing all those involved for the possible outcomes.

Positioning may help reduce the risk. Its worth looking into as it can reduce the pressure on the spine during labour

Maybe a water birth? Reduce the pressure on this IMs spine? Check with your midwife about all the options to help ease pressure on the back.

The bad news is the pressure is internal. But it would help in other ways
