Buying a new car guilt

I have a question, my husband and myself are buying a new toyota prado, we have sold our other prado and saved enough so we have $30,000 deposit and the rest finance. We only have a mortgage no other loans or credit cards etc, two kids and earn good money so can afford the finance no problems. The problem is the reaction from friends and family, they have told us how ridiculous we are getting a new car and theyd never do it etc etc and shunned us almost. I feel awful like we shouldnt do it or none of our friends will speak to us anymore!! They all get amongst each other and talk about us like we think we are so grand etc (other friends have told us.) but we dont at all its what we want and we will own it in a few years then have a car worth alot to resell if we choose. Are we making the wrong choice?? Help please!

As soon as you drive a new car out the lot they loose value. So buying a new car for it's future resale value is not a good reason. Cars are not investments, you always loose money.
However if you can afford a new car, would like a new car, see benefit in the safety features, warranty that comes with a new car then that's totally your business, nobody else's. Personally I can't afford one but would love to have one, so I say go for it!

My motto is if your not paying my bills their opinion is invalid unless asked upon.
If you and your husband want to buy a new car, buy a new car. Please will always talk so give them something exciting to talk about
Good luck, they are great cars.

They're jealous! If you can afford it and it's what you want why should you miss out to make others happy

So I'm not a brand new car fan, only for the fact how much money we lost when we sold our brand new car. Maybe this is what your friends mean. When u say you will have a car worth a lot when you resell, remember you will be flushing a least 20k down the toilet when u do so.
In saying all that it's yoyr money to choose how u want to spend it, not their's. And i would never judge a friend for wanting to spend a large amount on a car because quiet frankly how does it affect me!

My fil did this to us. I paid double tax for 2 years, we saved both out tax returns for 2 years, my clutch went in our 12 year old landrover, my mum gave me $5000 just to help get a newer model.
I found a car that was $29grand, top of the line, 3 years old but the shape is still current. I offered the dealer 22grand cash and he took it.

My FIL wont acknowledge the hard work that went into buying the car, just that "I" not my husband was throwing my husbands money around wasting it. When 85% of the money was mine. And we do not have mine and his in our family.

I have two comments - firstly, they're jealous. Do what you want to do with your own money, loads of people buy new cars, why do they care???!!!

Secondly, I see car purchases this way: Imagine you and a friend both own a 2013 Prado. She bought hers brand new for $80K a couple of years ago, and you bought yours this year for $40. Now you both own the exact same car, and you're $40 better off!! It's the basis upon which I stopped buying brand new cars. As soon as you've bought it, it starts losing big money. But of course there are lots of advantages of buying new (warranty, safety, that new car smell and feel!) so if you don't mind the money, it's no problem!
