My partner and i are possibly looking at building our first home through Metricon, we are interested in their house and land packages with $2000 deposit and they take first home owners grant deal.
Looking for any advice anyone can give us and if its as great of a deal as it seems and if there is any hidden fee's they dont tell you about?

I didn't build through metricon but look closely at what's the package includes for instance heating/air con, how many lights, power points, TV points etc. every change you make adds money to the cost of the build. I had a deposit of 25 000 but by the time you add in the extras of lawyer fees, stp duty etc I really needed closer to 45000...be aware of stamp duty and lenders mortgage insurance and the cost of connecting utilities and I just spent about 4000 on fencing and gates and 17000 on landscaping (nothing special but just making it useable), also paying rent whilst paying mortgage as well really sucked!!! It's a lot more expensive than you imagine - but on the flip side it really is nice to own your own home.
