Blood clots, period blockers and hysterectomy

HI IM'S,

Blood clots, estrogen, and period blockers...

So March this year I got a clot in the superficial veins in my left leg which ran from 7cm below the crook of the knee right up to the junction in my groin that joins to the deep veins... so pretty serious stuff. Started walfarin, everything was going great except when I had a period, was needing to change at least 10 times a day and was showering at least 3 times a day it was that heavy.

Fast forward to now and I have just gotten out of hospital for the same leg the same clot but it has moved further into the deep vein system and lower into my leg (right down to the ankle)

The blood thinners make my period hell. I can't take the pill as the estrogen is a huge factor in clotting

Are any other mumma's in this position, did you find something to block your period through your doctor? I am on the blood thinners for life too.

Also, you can't fall pregnant on walfarin as it is a carcinogenic medication and there is a 100% certainties the baby will be deformed some how, have any successfully been able to use this reason to get a hysterectomy? (I have 2 children already and clearly can't have anymore anyway)

Get a refferal to a good gynacologist, where abouts r u? Im in perth n have agynacoogist who is great, im in perth. Shes on maternity leave atm, but is back in dec. If your below 30 they generaly wont do hysterectomys, only in extreme circumstances. I feel your pain i have had periods like that, not as bad though. No form of contraception suits me i just constantly have a period. My next option is a hysterectomy as I'm on lots of medication that can cause malformations, but im only 26 so itll be really hard to find a surgeon who will do it. My gyny is willing to help me.

Thanks for your reply, I'm in brisbane. There is also a strong family history of uterine cervical and ovarian cancer (mum and sister uterine and cervical, 2 aunties cervical another 2 ovarian) so I am hoping that may help my argument for hysterectomy. . . I'm just turned 27, so I know what you mean about everyone saying wait until 30... gah, I just don't feel I can do this every month and the bleeding in between never knowing when it's going to come is frustrating to say the least.

Ask your gp for a refferal to a good gynaecologist. Mine is an hour drive away but I would rather drive an hour for a good one than have a mediocre one thats close. Get your gp to send the gynaecologist you medical history before the appointment and to try to get in asap as its urgent.
