bleeding in early pregnancy

i am 5 weeks pregnant (4th pregnancy 3rd child) yesterday morning i started bleeding heavily but have no cramping no abdominal pain at all my doc checked my cervix but didnt say if it was open or not. ive also had no pregnancy symptoms at all except a positive pregnancy test at 3weeks. I went for a scan today and he said at 5wks they cant see a baby so he said its just a waiting game now
