Bedtime routine when out and about?

Hi IMs
Just wondering what you've done when taking your bub out during bedtime? I've has bub on a pretty regimented bedtime routine since day 1. He now has solids at 5:30, then a walk, a bath, then bottle before always being out to bed at 7. I really want to be able to enjoy all the Christmas outings but feeling very nervous after 5 months of stress free bed times. Any hints or tips would be fab!

We had a bed time routine for our baby that worked well, but we still took her out on the odd occasion past bedtime and ignored the routine. What we found was that she coped quite well being out later. Sometimes she would just fall asleep in her pram or in our arms, other times she would enjoy staying up and "socialising" with us. It didn't seem to have an impact on her routine on the following nights. She's now 2.5 and very adaptable in her routine. I think whilst a good routine is very healthy, it's also good to break it once in awhile so they learn to cope with changes when they happen.

It is good to let them relax too when out and about, they get to socialise with your friends and family, and they get to learn that not everything goes by the book so to speak. I love taking my babies out and enjoying a break from routine for all of us!

Breaking routine for one night occasionally won't wreck your established routine. My twins have intermittently gone to hospital for certain things up to 2 weeks and lived in someone elses house for 6 weeks and within a day or two of coming home they were back in routine. If you stick to the routine the next day you should have no issues. If you can loosely stick to your bubbas routine feeding and sleeping while you are out, then bubba will not get overtired and stressed. Having bubba sleep in their pram during your walk will help that be a safe place for them to feel comfortable enough to sleep while you are out. Go and enjoy your Christmas events and don't worry about the routine. Have fun!
