Baby vaccinations

What does everyone think of baby immunisations? We are suppossed to travel interstate when baby is about 5 weeks old. Can vaccinations be done slightly earlier? Do you think it is safe to travel via plane this young? Also what are peoples thoughts on not letting people come near baby if they haven't been vaccinated for a reason (i.e allegic to the vaccine?) until after baby has first needles.

The best person to speak to about wether vaccination can be done early or not is your GP. I think it's perfectly reasonable to limit people who are around your baby until after vaccinations are done especially if you live in an area with low herd immunity. My main cause of concern would be whooping cough. You will not be able to control who comes in contact with your baby on outings etc. I was advised to avoid shopping centres until after first immunisations as they are a hot bed of disease spreading! Planes are also known risk factors as everyone is in close quarters and no fresh air etc.

First immunisations, I don't think they can be done any earlier than 6 weeks but it would be best to check with your GP. Second, planes can be extremely problematic for spreading disease as the air is re circulated over and over again (great for spreading Measles) and being in close quarters with other people. I would avoid it if possible. It is a wise decision to keep people who haven't been vaccinated away to protect bubs. I know it is hard but it is worth it to protect your baby.
