asking school to help with costs

Just after some advice.
My son (6) broke his arm at school during class time playing a game under supervision of his tteacher. He ended up having surgery and is in a cast from shoulder to fingers. He has been in the cast for nearly 5 weeks with 3 more to go. My question is that he is going to need some pretty intensive physio to help straighten his muscles and tendons which have been bent for so long, i want him to have the best but its expensive would it be wrong of me to put in a request to the department of education to ask them to help cover the costs? It happened in class time

I think schools have insurance for this kind of thing. As it sounds like not a simple break but long term recovery process I would look into it. Be nice about it though as it's not a case of negligence (by the sounds if things) but a childhood accident that is just bad luck.
