Anti depressants

I was wondering if anyone taking anti depressents has fallen pregnant or tried to conceive while on them? I'm currently on 20mgs of Talam ( citalopram) I have been for about 6 weeks. It's safe for breastfeeding, and I'm going to go back to my doctor and ask if it is ok for pregnancy but I wanted to see if women have had healthy pregnancys on them? My partner and I have always wanted our children close together our youngest is 10 months and we're talking about trying for a baby in the next couple of months.

Contact Rodney Whyte from Monash (google should turn up a phone no and/or email for him). He is a medication for bfing/pregnancy guru!

ETA: I fell pregnant on 37.5mg of EFEXOR but was advised to stop. I do NOT recommend that. Early pregnancy hormones plus anti-depressant withdrawals = seriously effed up mama--to-be.

Not sure about the specific anti depressants however my doctor recommended me not to use them whilst pregnant because the risk of withdrawal to antidepressants when the baby is born. The antidepressant crossed the placenta when pregnant and then when born and breastfeeding only a very small amount comes through in the breastmilk.

I know you planned to have a baby close to your last one, but personally do not hurry this. As someone who has suffered depression, now is not the time to add a new baby to the mix (especially after taking it for only 6 weeks). Get yourself healthy mentally first then start planning another baby. Two babies or one baby and a pregnancy plus depression is just something I would not do to myself or my babies. Wait until you are in a position to enjoy :)

Hello! Kelly here from the Imperfect Mum team!

This question would definitely be more suited to a doctor - as they would know the professional ins and outs of what you're taking and why etc. Hope they're able to help you! Hugs! x
