Abnormal pap smear result

I'm a Mum of a 4 year old boy & a full time stepMum to a 2.5 year old girl. My last pap smear was completely normal two years ago. Two weeks ago I had my routine pap smear & today I got the results. Abnormal cells CIN 2/3, which means a high amount of abnormal growing cells on my cervix. I'm so scared these are going to be pre cancerous cells that I will need removed or even worse, cancer. I've been in tears all day. A gynaecologist has been referred & I'm waiting to get their call to make an appointment. So my question is, have any fellow IM's been through this & what was the outcome? I'm soooooooo depressed & it's all I can think about. My Mum was my age when she had the same cells removed, yet hers were further developed. Hers were CIN 3+ which is borderline cancerous. I'm so scared :(
