9yr old niece has a problem with wetting her pants.

Hi IM's, I'm asking for my sister as she isn't on The Imperfect Mum page but my 9yr old niece (going on 10 next month) has a problem with wetting herself. It doesn't happen every day as far as we know and we can't pin point a reason as to why?? She's a happy carefree girl and quite mature for her age and well behaved.. She doesn't ever wet the bed and she has no problem getting or going to the toilet.. Sometimes it happens at school and while she's watching TV or playing outside.. She doesn't tell anyone and she'll just stay in her wet clothes until her Mum notices which she'll then try to blame on someone else or say she didn't know she had to go until it was too late, it's been happening for a while now and we first thought it was because she didn't want to miss out on playing with the other kids by having to go to the toilet but for example tonight she was watching TV and pee'd on the couch when her Mum asked her about it she tried to blame it on the cat.. My sister has tried talking to her numerous times as have I about going as soon as she feels the need and trying to figure out why she does it.. Also she doesn't have a urine infection or anything like that. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on what to do or what the problem might be?? Sorry for the long post!

Take her to the dr this can be a sign of a medical problem like an incorrectly shaped bladder etc. Otherwise she may find a pants alarm helpful to retrain her to the sensation of going. It attached to FFD pants and buzzes to let her know when it's time to go. Otherwise ask for a consult with a continence specialist
