7yr old with panic attacks??

7yr old with panic attacks??

Hi all IMs i have four children, 9, 7, 6 and 8 months. about a month ago my 7 year old boy came to me very distressed saying he couldnt breath. We tried calming him down , but within minutes he was distressed saying he couldn't breath again. we rang an ambulance he was checked over and nothing abnormal found. within the month he has had 4 minor "attacks" and two major (one on Wednesday and one today) i took him to the gp on Wednesday they did blood and urine tests not finding anything. i have no idea what could be worrying him. and Im concerned that it may be more than just a panic attack. the Dr has said he is the youngest patient he has seen with this sort of thing.... He says he can't breath, and has a tingley right hand. we have had him breathing into a brown paper bag when he is like this. Has anyone else experienced this?? I appreciate you responses thanks so much. from a worried IM...

Not as a child but as an adult I have had them. There is no rhyme or reason and can come on when I'm watching tv. Make sure your son is being monitored by a paediatrician and possibly child psychiatrist. These things can spiral out of control quickly and it can take ages to get in for a first appointment, once your in it's much easier to get follow up appointments. Panic attacks can be extremely debilitating and the more you have them you can then develop panic attacks over having them (nasty cycle).

PS you can always cancel an appointment if it turns out he doesn't need it.
