I have a 4.5 year old little girl, she is gorgeous. BUT she does not listen and is consistently defiant no matter the consequence, she throws temper tantrums which can last 20-40 mins when she does not get her own way and no amount of ignoring or discipline seems to prevent or shorten these tantrums. She has difficulty (selective hearing) when instructed to do things like clean her room or pick up after herself. Her bio-dad & I have been separated since she was 3 months old, I had PND until she was 2, and have a re-partnered 18 months ago. From age 6 months til 4 I studied a degree, and now have started full time work which isn't different to when I worked & studied. Is there any tips or solutions to getting this behaviour under control as she just seems to be consistently defiant - even if rewarded for good behaviour. I'm ripping my hair out!! Argghhhh!

Sounds to me like she is craving attention from her mummy.
If you are certain this isn't the case ensure she has a daily routine and consider one of the patenting topics like 123 magic and aha parenting.
How is her behaviour everywhere else? Have you tried the triple p program? Consistency is really important when trying to get on top of a child's behaviours. There is generally a push back where the behaviour gets worse when implementing a technique (which is when parents give up) but if you continue the behaviour does get better.
