I wish Drs knew more about anxiety. This past 5 months of mine has been absolutely hell. Drs should know how to calm anxious patient.

Doctors lack empathy all round. It's a coping mechanism, if they felt sorry for everyone they wouldn't get far without having a breakdown themselves.
Some doctors are better than others. I had one who started taking me through calm breathing. Please never stop at the GP though and get that referral to a Psychologist or Counsellor. Medication is not the only stop.
Drs are general practitioners. Their role is to identify your needs and refer you to specialists.
A psychologist is needed.
My mum struggles with mental health related issues, she always used to complain that her doctors were rude and dismissive or had no clue etc. I went with her to see her doctor one day as I was tired of her not receiving the appropriate care, honestly I went into that appointment ready to give this doctor a piece of my mind.
I was very surprised to discover that he was actually brilliant but I identified the problem almost immediately - he didn't mollycoddle my mother and tell her what she wanted to hear. He expected her to put in the work and take accountability in terms of managing her mental health.
Some doctors definitely lack empathy and have zero focus on patient care, I have been seen by doctors myself who have either lost all passion for their job or never had the people skills for it to start with. Those people shouldn't be in the medical field! I do also think it can take bit of trial and error to find the right doctor for your individual needs.
However, I do think if you're finding this to be a consistent issue with every doctor you see it might be worth considering whether you're going into these appointments with an open mind and realistic expectations.
