Burnout

I have 2 teens with serious physical health conditions, alongside ADHD ODD ASD. My support system consists of me. I am struggling with NDIS and my coordinator and I are doing all we can with it. I don’t have any friends, and I’m not able to work. I only get out for appointments and I’m a carer 24/7. Not only that, I also have physical health conditions that leave me very ill.

I’m writing this, not for solutions to change my life, as I’m working my butt off. I’m looking for some experiences on how to recover from burnout when there are no opportunities for breaks or support any time soon.

You NEED opportunities for breaks. That’s just a fact of how recovery from burnout or stress works. I am also sole parent and it’s tempting to convince yourself that those times they’re in bed or on their screens is enough ‘you time’ but it’s just not. You need things to look forward to, and you need enough time to take care of your basic needs like sleep and self care and then to also feel able to go out and do things you enjoy like socialise, call on friends, relax, do hobbies. Have you looked into whether your NDIS covers respite or how to access it?

What is your NDIS co-ordinator doing to help?
