7 year old sleep anxiety

Hi IMs

Miss 7 has had extreme difficulty sleeping since about 3 years old. We were recommended melatonin by a paediatrician. She has this each night however even tho we only give her half a dose it seems to make her groggy and I don’t believe she is having a deep sleep. We have tried on multiple occasions to try and go without and she ends up lying there fidgeting and getting worked up until really late.I believe she is anxious possibly about falling asleep and I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations on how to help this? I am hoping to move away from melatonin in hope that I can improve her quality of sleep. I have done all the routine changes over the years and none of this works. I think she stresses herself out about not being able to fall asleep and it goes from there.

My son has always been like this. It’s mostly because when he lays down at night, that’s when the thinking starts. Get a nice relaxing night light to keep on in her room. My son needs some kind of light. Just any small amount of light. I’ve always been like that also. My son has his melatonin around 5 pm, so he isn’t groggy the day day and is ready to fall asleep then by 8.30

Try a warm bath before bed, calming night light. Even a diffuser one with a relaxing oil and some soft relaxing music. We often put on waterfalls or rain.

I have always been like it too, so I can understand it. It’s exhausting.
