Is anyone here a support services worker, for age care? Going into eldery homes, cooking and cleaning for them etc. I'm really interested but can't cook for the life of me. I know I could probably ask for just cleaning and laundry side of things but seeing if anyone here but have more information for me.
I don't have a cert III in individual support.

There are plenty of shifts available that don’t involve cooking.
Get your certificates though as there are safety regulations you need to know about, even when just cleaning and other personal care.
Hi, I started working for an aged care company last year. I had no certificates. My role is a domestic assistant. I go into peoples homes and the main tasks are to clean the bathroom/s and vacuum and mop floors. Sometimes I change bedsheets, wash & hang out the laundry, do the dishes, wipe down kitchen benches and cook. It all depends on what is in the support plan and what they have trouble doing themselves.
Sometimes they want a cuppa and a chat if I have time at the end.
I also take clients shopping and bring their shopping in and pack it away.
It’s a fairly easy job. I have 1 hour - 2.5 hour windows for my clients.
Sometimes the time frame is hard to stick to when I’m seeing a new client for the first or second time and I can run a bit overtime, but once I see someone a few times, I get a feel for their house and clean much faster. You also have to know how to clean while chatting as some clients love to chat lol. Most just sit in the lounge room and let you do your thing though. 🙂
I’m regards to cooking, I do actually cook with a client but he is with me and we cook together under his instruction. He is the only client I cook for and I have about 15 clients that I regularly see in the fortnight. I work part time.
I am currently studying my Cert III as the company I joined offered to pay for me to become a Care Aid.
Good luck. It’s a very rewarding job!
