I’m hoping people could share their experiences with consent orders for financial settlement following our seperation. I’ve obtained legal advice and we are amicable and have already agreed on how we will split everything including property, super, cash etc. It’s very straightforward. We are doing our own parenting agreement, our kids are a bit older so it’s relatively easy. My lawyer has quoted $5k to have the consent orders drafted up - does that seem a bit high? I’ve given them all the info and practically done the work for them. I’m just interested to know if I really do have to pay this amount or if there are other options to finalise the financial side of things. Appreciate any advice.

My divorce was amicable, we didn't have much in the way of assets, so didn't even draw up parenting plans or use a lawyer for financial settlement.
My kids are adults now (divorced as toddlers), never had any issues.
You get one free mediation session through lawyers, it might be via Relationships Australia? It can all be done there and then lodged with the court, I think it cost approx $2,700 from memory. That was financial orders only, we didn't bother with a parenting plan because we agreed on terms, and 3 years later nil problems.
I am in the process of financial consent orders I already am up to $5k, not eligible for legal aid… listen to the divorce podcast it’s amazing they tell you how you can do it yourself
