Late Bloomer

Late Bloomer

Does anyone have a son that is/was a late bloomer? My almost 15 year old son hasn't started puberty yet. He has very fine just noticeable hair on his upper lip but that's about it. He is shorter than most boys his age, he plays sports where he is the smallest on the field. It is starting to get to him. I have googled that there is some hormone injections he can get to help kick start everything, we have a doctors appointment to have a chat about it but wanting to see what other families have been through.
We've been letting everything run its course but now it's really starting to get him down.

I was the same. No puberty at all until I started hormone injections. Doctors reckon I’ll go through menopause much later too

Thank you for your reply. I'm curious did the hormone injections affect you negatively in any other way? It's probably a silly thing to ask but that's kind of my main concern with it.

Boys can have significant growth between the ages of 12-24 give or take.

My brother went from 5’4 to 6’2 at 15-16. I went to school with a guy who left year 10 super short and ended up 6’7 by 21..

It is a waiting game. I would be concerned yet.

Ask your family and fathers family?
Are you genetically smaller framed? Shirt?

Thank you for your reply. His father was small and now is pretty big and my father said he was the same, smaller in high school as well. I'd rather wait but with him starting to get self conscious I'm worried it affect him too much if he waits.

My son was born at 27weeks he is also short for his age. He is a few weeks off 15 and we have been seeing a growth specialist for a couple of years. He said they are very reluctant to give growth hormone injections. It’s worth getting your son checked at a growth specialist tho as they can do a bone scan and check his not lacking in the growth hormone. I know how hard it is when it affects your child, all the best xx.
