This is weird

A few weeks ago I was stung by a wasp for the first time ever. I was fine, not nearly as bad as I always thought they were and not as bad as a bee sting. It definitely wasn't enjoyable but I was surprised that it didn't sting for as long as I thought. Now I have a weird urge to get stung whenever I see one. Of course I'm not that stupid but I find the urge so strange. I don't like pain. Is there cocaine in wasp venom? What is this weird phenomenon?

😂 no there is no cocaine in wasp venom. I couldn’t answer as to what the weird phenomenon about wanting to be stung again means, however I’d suggests if the thought of it consumes you or you do find yourself seeking out wasps to sting you, then perhaps speak to a therapist about it.

Wow I really do sound crazy don't I, going by your reply lol. Definitely not seeking them out it's just so strange. I did have a google before and saw that the venom is anti inflammatory and good for arthritis. I don't have arthritis but maybe I felt the relief from the venom as my knees are always sore from work. Or maybe it triggered adrenaline and my brain is after more lol. Who knows! I was kind of hoping it was a thing and other people have had it too.

Nah you don’t sound crazy but the comment asking if they have cocaine in them made me laugh a bit 😂

At the end of the day people get kicks out of weird and odd things. This might be your thing - who’s knows 🤭

It probably is a thing, some people like being stabbed with pointy things like acupuncture or as you said the adrenaline rush from the sting might have triggered a cool reaction for you or even the pain relief from the anti inflammatory response. It’s a little odd but I don’t think you’re crazy 😜

Maybe try skydiving 🪂 that could be an awesome rush for a adrenaline kick.

I’ve been stung a few times, not nice for me but I’d be happy to swap to your reaction once in a while just so I could relate ❤️

You probably had a little buzz from the release of histamine and adrenaline after you were stung. It’s not something in the sting that is an issue it’s the thing the body does in reaction to the sting.

You sound like you are depressed and want to self harm? Talk to your GP

Doesn’t sound depressed at all. Sounds like it’s a bit of fun and she is curious. It’s quite amusing and interesting because ive never thought of this before. How many people get stung by a wasp. Would love to know the affect it has on others.

It probably released a something that helps your body in some way. Def not Cocaine else all the cokeys would be out getting stung at a much cheaper option😂 this post has made me smile. This is what makes us all so different. Now I am wondering if I get stung by a wasp; will it have the same affect. It’s actually really interesting. I’ve never heard of this before but can see how it’s a thing. I def don’t want another bee sting in my life but a wasp doesn’t sound too bad 😂🐝

It would've been the adrenalin/epinephrine. Do a little research about it and it'll all make sense, it's also genuinely fascinating. The human body is mind blowing honestly!

After I'd just given birth to my son, I could literally feel the adrenalin coursing through me. I felt no pain, I had this energised feeling that I'd never felt before. I truly felt on top of the world, pure ecstasy almost. It was like I could've lifted up a car and thrown it like a paper plane followed by a casual 10k marathon.
(Athough that feeling was short lived, boy oh boy did I crash 🤣).

It's funny you make that cocaine connection though because a hit of adrenalin is a kind of high, that's why people skydive and bungee jump or swim with sharks - to chase that feeling!

Obviously it not a good idea to seek out wasps to sting you for enjoyment. If it gets to that point where you can't fight the compulsion, it'd be worth seeking some professional help.

This sounds like intrusive thoughts (no that doesn't make you crazy 😂😂) like have you ever stood at the top of a cliff & had a weird urge to jump? Or open the car door & fall out while it's moving? Not because you want to die, just kinda like "what would happen?"
Or randomly break up with your SO for no reason?
It's genuinely a thing that a lot of people experience 🤷‍♀️ not to to be acted upon, of course 😂😂

Also I want to say, I've been stung by wasps twice (one was a full nest that I crashed into, the other just a single sting) and both times hurt like a bastard 😂😂 I definitely don't want it again, ya weirdo 🙂

I was stung by a wasp and it did not bother me either. Until I went back outside without realising they release a pheromone encouraging all the other wasps to sting too. The first time was not the problem. It was the stings afterwards. Maybe you like the wasp pheromone 🤔😆

I would not worry too much. You're just having thoughts about it which do not translate to actually getting bitten. If thoughts start to bother you and become more intrusive then seek out someone e.g. a therapist to just work on things like cognitive diffusion. There may be some small little activities online you can find for when those thoughts arise if it is just specific to this situation. If this is more a general issue then therapist can help with coping and developing these skills ;)
