Some one close to me, has body dysmorfia. It's been an issue since a young teen, they are now in their 40's.
They have suffered anorexia and bulimia over the years, followed by bouts/years of over eating, then living on iced coffee, smokes and the cycle just goes round and round. They talked to a Dr about weight loss meds as they are at their heaviest, they refused, due to the diagnosis of BD. They also refused to assess them for weight loss surgury due to their weight being under 100kg, they are over weight, not morbidly obese.
Anyhoo, they have now found a Dr, who is unaware of the BD, and approved them for weight loss surgury as they have auto immune. Yes the other Dr awas aware of AI
I'm worried, this person has no idea of the diatry changes they will need to make to compansate for the surgury. The fact they can eat until they are about to pop says this is dangerous. they seem to think this is going to be a quick fix, and won't listen to whats fully involved, the risks. This person is really close to me, extremely so. How can I make them realise..... An examption has already been made due to pre existing medical conditions

She needs a psych. Whichever way she goes. It’s sad because it sounds like maybe the drugs would work but she was also refused them. But she needs to lose weight, someone has to trust her at some point and help her with some kind of weight loss system.
If u have a diagnosis BD, the only weight loss method they will give is sending you too a diatition.
Ring the Drs and let them know about. BD
I thought the surgery was specifically for people who overeat as it limits them? Everyone I know that's had it couldn't overeat if they wanted to so I'm not sure that would be a problem, that's the whole point of it.
It's possible to overeat after surgery, the side effects of that aren't pleasant but there are many who put the weight back on. This is why psych support is crucial prior to surgery as well as re-education about eating well with a dietician. This is why those with body dysmorphia aren't usually candidates for this surgery as it often fails.
I know of a lot of people who have had it and are back to being overweight now. After the first few months they learn how stretch it, even though it makes them sick.
I don’t think it’s good for her, but I also think it’s part of her life struggles and if she goes through with it just be non judgemental and support her through her battles. You can advise, you can’t make their choices and that’s because you don’t actually walk in their shoes.
No, it's not. People get it for man reason, like health issues that are affected by weight, people with thyroid issues. But to qualify, you need to meet a criteria. You have to follow a strict diary change as your body won't absorb nutrients as well. People get very sick for not making legitimate changes to diet
My point was, the surgery was literally designed for overeating and to forcefully change eating habits for people that need to urgently lose weight.
