Kmart casual hour's?

Kmart casual hour's?

Is it normal for kmart to only give casual employees 3hr shifts? I didn't agree to less hour's if I was quitting a job giving me 25hrs a week.

I'm losing money already.
I agreed getting the same hour's and had to ask on my first week at kmart to the manager if I can get more hour's

Did you already post this? It takes about a week to get posted to FB so unless you deleted the first post it should come up on fb soon if not already.

Unfortunately it is normal for casual, definitely keep asking for more hours though let them know how important it is and that you will have to leave if you don't get the minimum 25 a week. In the meantime just start applying for other jobs anyway so that you can speed things up if they don't come to the party with the hours. Look for permanent for job security.

I'm casual (not at Kmart but within the retail industry). I'm rostered on for 6 hours this week, two 3 hour shifts.
So yeah, this sounds pretty standard.

It sucks that you were under the impression that you'd be getting more hours but being a casual, they aren't obligated to give you a certain amount of hours.

You'll probably get more hours over Christmas.

If I were you, I'd be looking for another Christmas casual position or some other type of employment. Big department stores like this usually put the juniors on first because they don't need to pay them as much.

Unless an agreement is in writing you'll get what they choose to give you.

Unless it’s permanent part-time you aren’t guaranteed anything. Casual is casual, that means they can do what they want.
The person interviewing you in a large store is rarely the person setting your hours. Large retail stores will always have more people on there books than they actually need.
They may increase your hours over Xmas (if you are lucky) but they won’t stay that high.
Never quit regular hours for a casual job.

This is the problem with casual - they don’t have to give you any shifts. It’s not guaranteed. And it’s why they do it, they can test you out and it’s easy for them to get rid of staff that aren’t working out. They probably are trialling a few people at the moment, and when some drop off yours might pick up. If it’s not what was offered in the interviews, go and speak to HR about why not.

I work at kmart, the casual shifts all depend on what area you are working in, in our store if you do returns, presentation, customer service, registers alot of them shifts are only 3 hrs. Some shifts like sequence, refresh, decant are longer.
My best advice would say yes to every shift, show them you are reliable and you will be more favourable and better chance and getting shifts that are longer. Try and learn as many areas as you can so your more versatile.

Casuals can be doing shifts up to 40 per week or as little as 3.

They're there to support the gaps and needs of the business.

Ask for more and if you can do shifts at multiple stores.

I work at Coles and started at 1 store. My hours got limited to 3 per week and I had to start looking for a job elsewhere. I was deliberately denied information and training to limit my capacity for my role. Then I decided filled a few shifts at a different store and transferred there.

I then as given more opportunities and my requests for additional training was heard and implemented. I became more if an asset and now have proven myself.

I now work a 35/22 hour cycle and part time.
