Kmart employees, I didn't realise when starting the job causal meant next to no hour's? I agreed upon 25hrs at least since I was quitting another job and that was 25hrs.
Just checked the roster for kmart and I'm only getting 15hrs a week which now makes me regret leaving my other job.
I was clear I needed the same hour's.
Is this normal with kmart? I wasn't even called for 3 weeks after getting the job. I had to keep calling or going in to see what was happening.
I'm 33, single mum I need a lot more hours or else I'm screwed.

Completely normal for casual no matter where you are. When I first signed up for disability support worker job I was casual and the contract specified UP TO 76 hours a fortnight. I was getting maybe 20, and my then husband had a go at me because I wasn’t being offered 76 hours and thought I was a bad worker.
Turns out it’s completely normal in casual employment.
Unless you are offered permanent part time work, never trust them!
Unless there's anything in your contract guaranteeing hours (which casuals usually do not have) then they do not have to roster you on for any minimum - casuals are rostered *when needed* and not guaranteed hours. It sucks, for sure
Casual is risky if you're relying on regular income, ask for permanent or change jobs. I've not had trouble getting plenty of casual hours from smaller businesses except for one cleaning place who thought I got enough money from the government because I was a single mum so I was just working for the fun of it apparently lol, everyone else got priority for hours while I was just the fill in the gaps person. I also think in general bigger companies have more staff and will always try and put junior staff on before senior staff.
I'm casual retail currently and I'm lucky to break 15 hours. In fact most weeks I'm around 13 hours!
It sucks but my work place was upfront about what to expect in regards to hours. Where it sounds like Kmart were being a little disingenuous during your recruitment.
I'm looking for a second casual position to make up some more hours, might be something you have to look at doing too.
It's normal in alot of places. Casuals are a back up and cost alot more pr/hr. 3hrs a month is the minimum they have to give staff on a casual basis. 15hrs is reasonable for a casual. Work hard, make yourself avalable, offer to cover shifts, and ask for a contract in a few months time.
Sounds normal for casual and being a big company the probably don’t give a shit. Where are you located? Try insurance, they are desperate for staff. I know both youi and Auto and general have permanent part time school hour jobs currently, minimum 25hours and approx $31 an hour plus commission (not sales) they are both located on the sunny coast
