Hello everyone,
Wanting to hear some stories of those who have needed surgery.
what categories you were placed under and how long you actually had to wait?
I’ve been placed on the waiting list under category 1 supposed to be within 30 days from admitting the papers. I was told that I’d first receive a letter stating acknowledgment of admittance and then a call with a surgery date which would usually be around 2 weeks of the date. currently on day 22 have not received either the letter or call. I have called to follow up that I am on the waiting list which I am but wondering now how likely the surgery is going to be within the 30days?

It’s a how long is a piece of string situation.
Hospitals are still struggling to catch up post covid, and emergencies will still be prioritised over urgent.
It depends on what type of surgery and how urgent it is. You’ll get a more accurate estimate from your surgeon than anyone on here. My son son is cat 3 for scoliosis surgery, supposed to be done within 365 days, been on the waiting list for about a year, but will be waiting at least another 6 months if not longer. When he was reviewed in April we were told at least another 12 months. Luckily at his most recent review a few weeks ago there had been minimal change. If at the next review there’s been a rapid change they will push him up the list quicker.
My mum, in her 60's, diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Took 3 months for a basic biopsy.... that's Australian health care
