Hi mums, I'm about to take the plunge and do what I've always wanted to do, get braces! I'm 32 and only ever had a filling which was when I was under 10. I need my top first molars removed and then I'm getting upper and lower braces including those annoying elastics for 2 years and I know it's all gonna be worth it in the end but I'm nervous as hell, especially about the teeth pulled! Can anyone tell me their experience with both extractions and braces (preferably good, Ive heard bad from basically everyone I've asked mainly about extractions) and how did you cope with elastics if you had them? I would literally rather give birth naturally again than think about my teeth getting pulled out haha.

I was the same but I had a toothache while pregnant and needed that tooth out - so they pulled it and it was not that bad. I’ve had another one since, and again, I was nervous and twitching a bit in anticipation and it was all unnecessary as it was done before I knew and didn’t hurt at all and recovery was also smooth.
Try not to work yourself up and overthink it.
I haven’t had braces so can’t help with that. But for the extractions, bite on the cotton pad for as long as possible afterwards to stop the bleeding. The more blood you swallow the more nauseous you’ll be the next day. Otherwise follow the aftercare instructions the dentist gives you and take painkillers if needed. The thought of it is a lot worse than it actually is.
