Activities and iPads school holidays

What does everyone do on rainy days? We don’t have much of a back yard it’s not really safe for the little ones to be out there as it is not fenced. We try get to the park as much as we can weather permitting but these holidays with the rain I feel like they are just sitting around watching tv. What kinds of activities does everyone do with their little ones? Also in terms of iPads how often do you allow them.

It depends on their ages. Mine are 6 & 9. I tell them to go & play, read etc. & not ask for screens until earliest 2pm or they won't get them at all. If they say they're bored I suggest we do a toy clean out since they obviously find their stuff so boring..... They go on a mission to play with it all then....

I also do things like bake biscuits, muffins, craft with the youngest, board or card games. I also use the fact we're at home to teach them life skills - folding/ putting away washing, making basic food etc. It's so busy during term time this gets difficult.

To get out of the house when raining we go to the library & they pick books, local (free) musem which has play areas for the kids, shopping centre playgrounds or school hol activities (small but ok), visit family or friends.

Also check out your local council for free or cheap holiday programs.

Baking, cooking, clay, painting, cubby house, movies with all the blankets on the sofa, it’s ok to go out in the rain, actually kids love it, they see new things and love to jump in puddles, put on your raincoats and go for a walk, then have a lovely bubble bath and get cozy when you get home.

Mine are 12 and 9 I don’t limit screen time during the holidays I do encourage them to do other things play outside art and craft board games etc I’m still working so they need to occupy themselves while I work and for my kids being on their iPads etc is really interacting with their friends playing games chatting so I’m fine with that we try to get out on the weekends but sometimes by the weekend I’m exhausted from working my house is a mess and I just want to stay home they don’t mind during the term we run around like crazy people I think they just enjoy hibernating
