I have jewellery gifts given to me like earrings, necklaces, brooches and I also have an engagement ring (have certificate of value from initial purchase). These items are a mixed bag of real gold, silver and platinum. Where do people go to sell their unwanted jewellery? Where have people had luck selling at a reasonable price?

It is hard to get a reasonable price. You can try selling it yourself online but that is hard, people have trust issues with things like that because most of us don't know how to tell what jewellery is worth so prefer to buy it through a jewellery shop. You can take it to a jewellery shop but they may not offer much. Same with hock shops. What I did with my old jewellery was had it turned into a new piece.
