Do i need a doc referal for a physio? And
Is a physio covered by Medicare?
If not, all good, roughly how much for a first consult?
(If it makes a difference, this is my own choice to go, not on Doctors advice but can go to the doc first if needed)

My grandmother has been through government based physio which was covered by Medicare. She's also been to private physio which wasn't covered at all by Medicare, I believe that cost her roughly $110 per session.
It may vary state by state, it may also vary clinic to clinic.
I also know she needed a doctors referral for both.
That would be because of her age and health issues, also the cost for her at her age and her problem, she would need a referral to be covered but in general anyone can go without a referral.
No referral needed. You also can get covered for some on private health extras. I pay $11.00 a week for extras with AHM and I get some back for physio, remedial massages, chiro etc, it’s well worth it for the price. Medicare doesn’t cover any. I usually pay $90 but depends where you live and where you go. I’ve also paid $75 and first consult usually has a special price or can be more . Ring around and get some info.
Mine is $87 for a 30 min consult & I get $40 back from private health. First consult might be more expensive.
They set their own fees so ring around & ask.
After my own my own experience, ask around for recommendations. First one I saw was not helpful & had NO idea what she was doing. Second one I got a recommendation from family & they're brilliant.
You can get an enhanced primary care plan via your GP which gives you 5 Medicare rebated sessions a year. But that has some criteria you have to meet.
But other than that you can book without a referral. 😊
I’m currently seeing a physio through the hospital for my ankle that I fractured a 4 months ago
