Veneer recommendations

Hi
So it turned out I need veneers on my front teeth, they are chipped and have several cracks. I'm in Melbourne, I'm terrified of the dentist! Can anyone tell me what to expect? I was told up to $1600 a tooth, is that normal? Any recommendations? TIA
