Knee pains, 8yr old

8yr old is complaining almost everyday that his knees hurt. Seems to be during the day and late in the afternoon.

He doesn't like nurofen or panodol, I got magnesium lotion but it's not really helping.

He keeps crying but I don't know what else to do.

Growing pains, growth spurts can be painful.

My daughter had this. She had an X-ray and it was clear. Dr told us to take calcium supplements. Please go to your dr and request an X-ray.

Please don’t just ignore this. I had severe knee pain growing up, it was ignored. At 31 my knee pain was so extreme that i had a scan and found that i suffered from Osgood Schlatters disease and the pain i suffered and still suffer could have been lessened by proper intervention as a kid. I have a large painful lump below my knee. Despite drs saying this does not cause pain in adulthood myself and many others with OSD still suffer significant pain.
I may be wrong, but you should still get an Xray done to rule out OSD.

Not OP but this is interesting.

I had scans as a child cause of bad pain and they said it was OsGood. I never had any treatment though cause parents were slack.
As an adult I have a lot of knee pain and problems

It’s ridiculous how many adults suffer with pain yet the Drs say it doesn’t cause pain.
Proper treatment as a child does appear to lessen the lump and ease pain, but even then some who have received treatment still get pain.

I’m sorry your parents didn’t seek treatment for you. I wish mine sought help for me

I was also diagnosed with this as a kid. I was never told it doesn't cause pain, the pain was the reason I presented to the doc. I was told to stop playing sport because the more it's used, the more calcium (or whatever it is) builds up. I was also told if it gets too big (or too painful) you have surgery to cut it off. I don't think there is any other treatment, but it has been a long time since I was told this. Its also very common

I said drs say it doesn’t cause pain in adulthood, it is extrememly painful as a child.
I and many others still experience pain as adults despite drs saying OSD does not cause pain in adulthood.

Ah, my apologies, I was skim reading and must've missed it. I definitely get pain as an adult too, mostly when I've used em heaps, but I'm not a sporty person and don't want them to get bigger and then have to get them cut off haha sounds fkn terrifying

All good, i hope one day there is a decent treatment for people like us who suffer from OSD.

OP, i would love to hear the results of your childs Xray when you get it done, i hope it’s not OSD, but if it is, do everything you can to help him now and in the future.
