Dating advice

Ideally, I want to find someone to spend the rest of my life with but so far that hasn't gone well for me. Mostly I've got into new relationships within about 3mths, with the exception of once where I stayed single for 3.5 yrs. I thought maybe I've been doing it all wrong by getting into relationships again too soon?
What are your dating rules? I'm mid 40's and still have kids at home (12-20yrs). How do I go about having fun and enjoying the process (and not get too serious too quickly?)

Date someone that lives far enough away that it requires time and effort to see each other.
That way you wont dive into something "convenient" too quickly. You will both have to make the effort, and this will mean you will have to manage your time. This will also make the meetings more special, as you will both understand the commitment you have made to be there. Dont dive into bed too quick either. Let the romance take its time.
