10 year old and messaging

Hello, my 10 year old daughter is keen to keep in contact with her friends outside of school hours. She has a iPad but it doesn’t have cellular. What is the best age appropriate way for her to do this? She currently can message select family from her iPad who have a Apple phone, but what’s can I do to help her widen these contacts who don’t have a iPhone? What has worked for you? And what should I steer clear of?
Thank you

Stay clear of it all it’s asking for trouble. My kids aren’t allowed to have any access to their friends after school, if their friends want to contact then they have my number. That way I can see it all and limit it. The Amount of kids that are bullied or cause drama on these apps is shocking. It’s up to us as parents to protect them from that. Protect their mental health. I don’t care what people think of my response. I see it daily with friends and their kids and it’s hard to undone some of this bullying that they go through. Friends telling them to go and do awful things to themselves etc. it’s terrible. Protect her as long as you can from these things. People can say they monitor it but if they did, kids wouldn’t have that issues that they have today. The arguments I hear between parents, my kid wouldn’t have messaged that, your kid did and blah blah blah.. They will live without it and the drama. If you are going to allow it, stick to 1-2 of her closest friends that’s it.
