Exploding Boob?!

Exploding Boob?!

I have this strange medical issue that the dr has no answers for just yet. Wanting to know if anyone has had similar experiences and could give me any idea what direction to go in.
My boob will begin to ache, my nipple begins to swell, then gradually pressure builds, the pain starts and gets almost unbearable. I have to support it with a pillow if I side sleep. My entire breast will burn and I get red lightning-strike marks cover my breast. I can feel a lump, which moves as the pain gets worse. It starts near my lymph nodes and works its way to under my areola, which is where the pain really intensifies. It will then develop a large "blister" of sorts of my nipple, which will grow until it literally explodes a thick, white/green mucous. The smell is foul, unlike anything I've ever smelt. Once it ruptures, it takes about 12hrs to fully drain and it's fine again for another month.

I finished breast feeding about 8 months ago, this started around 4 months ago. It doesn't respond to antibiotics, my ultrasound has come back clear & I have no idea what else to try but it's interrupting my life. I lose sleep, lose my appetite, can't concentrate, struggle with day-to-day functions, can't hold my child properly when it flares up. I'm at a loss and I know that these symptoms are pretty serious but so far every test has come back fine.

Any ideas to take to my dr would be greatly appreciated!

I had something similar but wasn't breast feeding, had scans which showed I have very fatty breastfeeding tissue, barely any breastfeeding ducts and the pus, and liquid that I squeezed from my nipple my doctor put down to an infection leaving my body.
I haven't had anything since, but I do get dried milk still coming through by squeezing my nipples 5 years on.
I'd be asking for a mammogram in your case to be honest, especially if it's happening every month

I don’t think what I had his the same thing, but basically I had an infection in my boob. I was only a teenager and I needed a double dose of heavy duty antibiotics to get on top of it. My boob swelled up and was hard, the veins on my boob became hugely obvious and it hurt like hell! I couldn’t go to school for 3 weeks, I was already a bigger busted girl and couldn’t wear a bra.

My guess is mastitis, your boobs are still producing milk but very slowly so it is sitting in ducts long enough to cause infection. Try medication to stop milk supply or try pumping at the very first sign of sore boobs

Go to a different Dr and request a CT scan. Has your Dr tested your bloods etc.? Your Dr should be doing more to investigate this. Ask for a referral to a breast specialist also.

I know a lady who had a lump on her breast. Her doctor sent her for an ultrasound. It showed nothing. She refits send her for a mammogram because she was “too young” and they believed the lump was a “milk duct”. 5 years later, she started getting nasty headaches. All the time, this woman had breast cancer that had metastasised to her brain.

Please get a second opinion.

Good luck hun
