Side effects of anti depressants

I’ve been diagnosed with anxiety and depression last august and since taking anti depressants I keep packing on the weight ( I mean 25 kilos before in less then 4 1/2 months I’m weighing over 140kgs now ). I’ve started having shakes, exercising a lot more ,eating less all that stuff and nothings helping still packing it on. I’ve spoken to my dr about my concerns and how scared I am about the rapid weight gain.

She’s never heard of weight gain on the anti depressants and is stumped what to do. I’ve said if this is how it’s going to be I want off! She’s spoken to another dr and he suggested changing to a different medication that will cost $85 a month ( I can’t afford that) but he doesn’t see what changing it will do.

I’m just looking for personal experiences not medical advice so My question is has anyone else been in this position, and how it changed for you?

All good Drs know that weight gain is a side affect of antidepressants. My Dr changed me to citalopram because it was a bit more weight friendly than some of the others I had been on. I gained so much weight. The worst part is they work so well bit the weight gain is the downside.

You need a new Dr and go from there. You can trial many to see which ones work best without the big weight gain side affect.

Weight gain was only a side effect for me on anti D's bcoz I was eating more. They make you bloody hungry it was crazy how much I ate. Are you always hungry and overeating? Or is it purely fluid ? Do you have thyroid issues or hormone issues?

What are you taking? Pristiq was the worst for me with 10kgs gained without eating more. I am now on Lexapro and find it much more helpful and didn’t put the weight on.
