I have ADHD and all through my marriage, my husband wouldn’t let me take my medication. He said adults don’t have ADHD and I’m using as an excuse to be lazy and not do things properly.
I’ve left him and I want to go back on my Ritalin but I’m scared to ask the doctor, as I’ve never been on it whilst living in Victoria, only when I was in nsw just after I met my now ex husband. I’m scared the doctor is going to say I don’t need it, or he’ll think I’m a drug addict looking for meds.
I really do need it, I can’t stay on task, and my mind bounces everywhere, I’m never still and I don’t get enough rest.

You should be able to have your medical records sent from your old clinic to your current one.
Even if it was over 15 years ago and interstate?
Worth a go
If you have a 'my health record' your new GP might be able to access the info. If not, get records sent from your old doctor & explain that you were prevented from accessing the meds by an abusive partner & how they help you. They're not going to think you're putting it on.
If your GP won't listen, find one who does.
Don't hold yourself back from medical treatment because you're scared of what ifs. No gp will say "you've never treated this broken leg, so you must not need the treatment for it" they have to look at you today and treat you. IF they do, they're a shit gp, but then what you need to do is go to a women's gp or one attached to a women's centre, because they will happily get you back on track and will be really understanding of where you're at and what you need to move forward.
It's a restricted drug. You need a referral to a psychiatrist that treats adult ADHD [pretty easy]. They write the first script and GPs can do repeats if the specialist reviews you as needed.
You will have to go to a psychiatrist to get it. Go to the GP to get a referral to a psychiatrist.
