Hi ladies, a few weeks ago my 3 year old son started stuttering. At first I thought maybe he was thinking faster than he could talk, but over the last few days the stutter has become alot worse (gone from repeating the first sound 2 or 3 times to repeating the whole first word of a sentence upwards of 4 times). He doesn't appear to be frustrated by it or even really notice he's doing it. Has anyone else out there had any experience with this?

I used to work with a speech therapist. Getting help now will stop it becoming frustrating or a problem in the future
My two girls went through something similar (same kind of thing, saying the first word many times... sometimes 5-10 times), it lasted several weeks then resolved on its own. I was worried with the first one, but didn't seek out any advice or treatment (not sure why in hindsight, I mustn't have been THAT worried!). When the second one did it I hardly even acknowledged it. I recall telling them to stop and think about what they wanted to say, but they were so little that they didn't really have that level of understanding yet. But it did help to make 'calm down' / 'slow down' gestures with my hands/face. I personally think they were just speaking before they'd really formed what they were trying to say in their head. Impulsive little creatures lol. Hope all goes well with your little guy xo
Oh my goodness!! Never tell a a child who stutters to slow down or breath. I stuttered as a child and my son now has a mild stutter. After all my speech therapy sessions even now I may slip up on a word not that anyone would notice but I do. Telling a child that stutters to slow down is embarrassing for them and honestly makes u feel like shit Cos in ur head ur bloody trying and people are telling u what to do! Not good advice!
I took my son to speech therapy where we learnt about smooth and bumpy talking, it's expensive so I learnt what to do and continue it at home.
It may be just a phase but it may not, don't ignore it and hope it goes away. It's not something nice to live with as a child, it's really hard. Go and see a speech therapist. And good luck.
