2yo son acting like a bully

My son is 2 years, 4 months old. And I'm expecting my second any day now. The last few weeks he's turned from a sweet caring little boy into a kid that hits! He hits my husband, dogs/cats, and children smaller than him.
I find it so distressing and embarrassing, I'm afraid to have playdates because I'm constantly hovering over him to watch he's not hurting someone.
Today he walked up to a random baby at a park and went to shove her!
We don't smack, and when I catch him doing it or about to do it I pull him aside and firmly say "no hitting, we don't hurt kids/dogs whatever " and "be gentle and don't hurt". And I turn around and he's doing it again!!!
I've tried removing him from the situation, time out etc. It's only when we completely leave the environment /situation does he stop.
Please help! I'm so embarrassed, I never raised my son to be aggressive like this. :(

It's a tricky age but it will pass. Keep doing what you are doing, maybe even try sitting him down for two minutes after an incident each time, see if that helps. Good luck, it won't last forever.

Yes I agree it with the first post - it will pass. For some reason some 2 yr olds go through a bit of an aggressive stage. Just keep doing what you are doing (removing him from the playground etc) and he'll soon learn to control his behaviour.
I once had a woman accuse my 2 yr old of being a bully, but 9 out of 10 parents realise that 2 yr olds are checking their boundaries and trying out what they can get away with. There is no such thing as a 2 yr old bully.

My little man has recently gone through this stage with biting added in as well! Just keep telling him that is wrong like you are and it will pass! It's a hard stage and I feel for u!

Wow dont be stressing hes only 2!! They all go through it they jus unsure how to express themselves.its a matter of repeating ..be gentle and naughty step over and over again..maybe put him in daycare for a day or 2 if you can that can really help them see whats acceptable by association and watching other kids !!! Im sure most parents dont bat an eyelid as they have been through it also

Omg he is 2. Just teach him right from wrong. He is definitely not a bully. You have thought too much onto it.
